Welcome to Molly's Adopt A Sailor "Special Hugs" Project

The MAS (Molly's Adopt A Sailor) started to see wounded troops and their information coming our way through the website and the idea of the Special Hugs Project was born.  If there are troops that are wounded or injured,  they are in need of encouragement and support, too!  What must it be like, to be in a hospital far from your hometown?  What must it be like for loved one's not to be able to travel to be with you?  What must the monotony be like on a day to day basis, without an outlet or someone to talk to?   Every project has a story and here is how we came to support our most recent Special Hugs  request.

An Army Chaplain at a Combat Hospital in Afghanistan asked us if we could send some cards and snacks to the wounded in January 2011.  These are the wounded that recuperate in tents, far from home and then return to the battlefield.  Of course we wanted to support them!  In working with the Chaplain we developed a plan to send something that would remind them of home every month.  The first request was for chicken soup!  Moms got behind that in a big way!  In the following months we have provided a pancake breakfast, a cup of noodles, a pillow and 'Movie Night'.  All in hopes not only to nourish their bodies but most importantly provide food for their soul!

The list of items they need is long.  These brave heroes arrive at the hospital with nothing but the clothes on their back.  And quite often those clothes are cut off so they can receive treatment.  Over and over we hear how excited they are about the love and support from back home.  And they are amazed that strangers would go through so much trouble to help them.  After they have put their lives on the line for you and me, we need to show them America supports them 100%!

We depend on donations from individuals and businesses to help provide basic needs and pick me ups.  To be involved contact us at specialhugs@mollysadoptasailor.com
